Issues
Health Care
With her experience and leadership on this critical issue, Regan Gray is the best candidate to ensure that the legislature addresses quality, affordable health care for all Oregonians.
Regan has been a long time advocate for fair insurance coverage and broader access to health care. From her first day as your representative, Regan will work to adopt a universal health care program to ensure all Oregonians have insurance coverage. In the meantime, Regan knows we must act to help those in need now. Insurance Parity legislation will keep hospitals from charging up to twice as much for uninsured individuals and creating an Insurance Rate Review Board will hold insurance companies accountable for their rate increases.
Revenue
Regan Gray will fight for a balanced, fair tax system that makes corporations pay their fair share.
Oregon needs to balance the tax burden between individuals and corporations. Over the last couple decades, the tax burden has been shifted away from corporations and onto small businesses and working families. Regan knows this is unfair. Increasing the Corporate Minimum Tax, closing tax loopholes and diverting the Corporate Kicker into a Rainy Day Fund are just some of the measures she will start fighting for on day one.
Economy
Regan Gray will work to create family-wage jobs and to make sure that Portland remains a leader in sustainable industry.
Too many Oregonians are working too much for too little. Not only are our wages stagnating, but we have also seen a decline in their pensions and health care coverage. Regan Gray will work to attract and retain businesses that will create family-wage jobs. Oregon has the opportunity to create new, good jobs around renewable energy and green technologies; bringing family-wage jobs to Oregon will help us generate the revenue we need to achieve a state that is economically and environmentally sustainable. Regan's experience in Salem will help her steer state and private investment to NE and SE Portland.
Environment
Regan Gray has the strength and experience to help Oregon curb our dependence on foreign fossil fuels and become an environmental leader again.
Regan will address global warming policy to reduce carbon emissions by limiting industry pollution and utilizing transportation dollars to promote alternative transportation. Regan is already working to pass proposals to expand our curbside recycling program to include plastic food containers as well as to further expand Oregon's Bottle Bill to include more beverage containers. Regan knows that clean air and clean water mean healthy people. By bringing health advocates and environmentalists together, she is in a unique position to build coalitions to accomplish these goals in the Oregon Legislature.
Education
Regan Gray knows that Oregon needs to fully invest in education and make sure our dollars make it into the classroom.
Regan helped fully fund K-12 this past session, but teachers at Portland Public Schools are not feeling the effects - they are still struggling with 30 plus class sizes and buying supplies out of pocket. College students are being put in a continually difficult situation financially as tuition increases and financial assistance goes by the wayside. Too many Oregonians leave the state for college, and we miss out on the next generation of cultural and economic leaders. We must ensure that teachers have the resources they need to educate our children - the future of Oregon.
Regan has been a champion for the past six years on legislation concerning women's health and choice, GLBT equality, and working families. For information please visit the Meet Regan page, or click here for information (PDF) on important legislation that Regan has taken the lead on.
